Volleyball Drops a Pair at Philadelphia Biblical Tri-Match

Langhorne, PA (9/15/07)  – Freshman outside hitter DEVON JOHNSTON registered 18 kills and 22 digs in two matches; however the Montclair State winning streak ended at six as the Red Hawks dropped a pair at Philadelphia Biblical University on Saturday.

MSU (7-5) fell to the host school in five sets and dropped a 3-1 decision to Villa Julie College.

Against Philadelphia Bible, sophomore ANNA CHESNAKOVA had 14 kills and four total blocks as the Red Hawks took a 2-1 lead in the match. But Philadelphia Bible would rally for a 30-27 win i in the fourth set and took the match with a 15-11 victory in the decisive fifth game.

Johnson added eight kills, 11 digs, and 2.5 blocks while KAREN MARTIN added eight kills and seven digs. Setter RAISA SILVA posted 34 assists and nine digs while libero MEGHAN STEVENS led all MSU players with 25 digs.

KARA BURNHAM added seven kills for MSU, which fell 30-23 in Game 1 before squaring the match at 1-1 with a 30-13 win in the second set.

Burnham would lead MSU in the second game with 14 kills as Montclair fell to Villa Julie, 30-18, 20-30, 30-28, and 30-11. Johnston had another double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs with Stevens adding a team-best 17 digs. Silva recorded her second straight 34-assist contest and also added six digs. Martin finished with seven kills, three service aces, and five digs.

MSU returns to action on Tuesday, September 18, to travel to New Jersey City University for a matchup with the Gothic Knights. MSU is currently 1-0 in NJAC play.
