RICKY MILLER (Seaside Park, NJ / Monsignor Donovan) and junior
JOHN ADAMS (Wharton, NJ / Pope John XXIII), the Montclair State men's swimming and diving team moved back to the .500 mark with a 135-106 victory over Vassar College on Wednesday evening.
Freshman
BLAISE LACCA ( Sewell, NJ / Washington Township) added a pair of wins as the Red Hawks captured nine of the 13 events contest in evening their record at 6-6 on the season.
Adams helped Montclair get off on the right foot as he swam the lead off leg for the winning 200 medley relay team. Joined by
JON KURTZ ( Stockholm, NJ / Vernon Township),
JOSEPH KNOLMAJER ( Bridgewater, NJ / Bridgewater-Raritan) and Lacca, the quartet registered a time of 1:44.28. Adams would then add individual wins in the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke. He posted a season-best time of 2:07.69 in the winning the 200 IM and then swam 57.42 to earn his triple-winner status.
Miller had his two individual wins in the 200 and 500 freestyles as he recorded times of 1:48.24 and 4:59.41, respectively. He then swam the anchor leg in the winning 200 freestyle relay team as he joined
DEREK HENRICHSEN (West Allenhurst, NJ / Ocean Township),
MATT CAPPILLA ( Barnegat, NJ / Southern Regional) and
MATT HYDE ( Clifton, NJ / Clifton) as the team clocked in at 1:36.18.
Lacca collected his own individual victory as he led a 1-2-3 MSU finish in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.08 followed by Knolmajer (23.82) and Cappilla (24.32). Hyde would lead the same finish in the 100 freestyle with as he swam 51.91. Lacca was second (52.59) and henrichsen third (53.41). Ryan Gorksy ( Williamstown, NJ / Williamstown) rounded out the first-place Red Hawk finishes as sh took top honors in the 1000 freestyle (11:14.40).
KEVIN GROWNEY (Rockaway, NJ / Morris Hills) was second in the event with a time of 11:25.36.
Montclair State closes out its regular season on Saturday, February 9 as the Red Hawks travel to local rival William Paterson for a men's and women's dual meet beginning at 1:00 pm. It will be the final dual of the season for MSU squads.
