Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Masterson, Mele Shut Down Ramapo in 2-0 Win

Montclair, NJ (10/15/08) – Senior forward TYLER MASTERSON scored once and assisted on the other goal as fourth-ranked Montclair State remained unbeaten with a 2-0 victory over Ramapo College in NJAC men's soccer action at Sprague Field on Wednesday evening.

Junior midfielder MICHAEL CULLEN had a goal for the Red Hawks, who improved to 14-0-0 overall, 6-0-0 in the NJAC with the victory. The win was also the 33rd consecutive home win for MSU.

Senior goalkeeper Mike Kull made four saves for the Roadrunners, who fell below the .500 mark to 6-7-2 overall. Ramapo is now 1-3-2 in the NJAC.

Scoreless through the first half, Masterson, the NJAC's leading scorer, broke the tie 4:30 into the period. JOSEPH CULLEN put a pass onto the foot of WILLIAM GRIFFIN. Griffin made a perfect crossing pass from the right side onto Masterson's head, who banged home the shot past Kull for his 11th goal of the season.

That's how the game would stay until 19:45 left in the match as MICHAEL CULLEN netted his sixth of the year off a Masterson assist. Masteron crossed a ball over to Cullen, who blasted a shot into the upper corner of the net from 18 yards out.

Goalkeeper NICK MELE made two saves as he posted his sixth shutout of the season. Montclair State outshot Ramapo, 19-5, and held the slim 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

Both teams return to action on Saturday, October 18, with NJAC contests. Montclair State heads to Pomona, NJ to face Richard Stockton while Ramapo hosts Rutgers-Camden at the Athletic Center.
