Red Hawks Down John Jay; Places Third at Reading Wyndham Classic

Reading, PA – Sophomore SEAN YOUNG (Scotch Plains, NJ / SP-Fanwood) scored a season-high 17 points and also added five rebounds in being named to the All-Tournament Team as Montclair State finished third at the Reading Wyndham Classic with a 78-57 win over John Jay College on Saturday evening.

JON GEORGES ( West Orange, NJ / St. Peter's Prep) had 14 points and six rebounds off the bench as the Red Hawks picked up their first win of the season and moved to 1-3 on the year.

Montclair also gained a measure of revenge against the Bloodhounds for a 72-62 loss in last year's Castle Classic Consolation Game at Manhattanville College.

A solid first-half shooting performance got Montclair State going as they jumped out to a 15-5 lead in the first six minutes of the game. JAMES WILLIAMS ( Englewood, NJ / Dwight Morrow), Young and TOM BONARD ( Westfield, NJ / Westfield) each scored in the first three minutes and a three-pointer by Bonard put Montclair up by 10 points. A free throw by RICHARD BROWN ( Newark, NJ / Newark Tech) gave Montclair State it largest lead of the half at 27-10 before the Bloodhounds battled back to 38-30 at halftime.

In the second half, a John Jay basket trimmed the lead to 38-32, but MSU boosted the lead back to 16 thanks to a 12-4 run over a five-minute span. Williams capped the run with two foul shots as Montclair went up 54-38 with 13:30 left. That would

Bonard and Williams each finished with 11 points as Montclair placed four in double figures. Dudley added nine points, five rebounds and four assists while ALI MIX ( East Orange, NJ / East Orange Campus) added eight points off the bench.

Montclair State returns to action on Tuesday, November 25 as they travel to Staten Island, NY to face the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island at 7:30 pm.
