Swimming Splits with Seton Hall, Adelphi

South Orange, NJ (11/6/08) – The Montclair State men's and women's swimming and diving teams split a tri-meet on Thursday evening as the Red Hawks fell to Division I Seton Hall while topping Division II Adelphi.

The MSU men lost to the Pirates 76-36 but defeated Adelphi 62-31. On the women's side, Montclair lost to Seton Hall 83-29 and beat Adelphi 78-17. Both teams are now 1-3 on the season.

Tim Chambrovich (Allenhurst, NJ / Red Bank Regional) posted the one of two first-place finishes for Montclair State on the men's side as he took top honors in the 200 individual medley. Chamborvich recorded a time of 2:01.95. Freshman Chris DeMuro (Ridgewood, NJ / Westwood) finished third in both sections of the one-meter diving events while CHRIS LEE (Morris Plains, NJ / Parsippany Hills) captured the 100 breststroke (1:04.20) and the men's 200 freestyle relay of MATT CAPPILLA (Barnegat, NJ / Southern Regional), SEAN FRENCH (Cranford, NJ / Cranford), Jeff McTernan (Maplewood, NJ / Seton Hall Prep) and DEREK HENRICHSEN (West Allenhurst, NJ / Ocean Township) also place first with a time of 1:26.80.

For the Montclair State women, LAURA SPADONI (Nazareth, PA / Nazareth Area) placed first in the 100 breaststoke (1:13.75) with teammate LAURA FLYNN (Andover, NJ / Lenape Valley) finishing second (1:15.07). Montclair also took top honors in the 200 freestyle relay as Christina Cross ( Milford, CT / Lauralton Hall), KELLY ABNER ( Glenwood, NJ / Vernon), NICOLE VAN AVERY ( North Brunswick, NJ / North Brunswick) and KAITLIN MUCHLER ( Vineland, NJ / Vineland) registered a time of 1:49.13. Flynn also took second in the 100 butterfly (1:05.57) and GALINA LOUTCHOUK ( Richboro, PA / Council Rock) had the same placing in the 1000 freestyle (11:14.86).

Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, November 8 with another tri-meet. The Red Hawks will be at the University of Rhode Island to face the Division I Rams in addition to taking on another Big East member Providence College.
