Madison, NJ (12/9/08) – The Montclair State men's and women's swimming and diving teams won 14 of the 22 events contested as the Red Hawks swept a dual meet at Drew University on Tuesday evening.
Freshman
LAUREN UCKAR ( Manalapan, NJ / Manalapan) was one of four competitors to win twice as the MSU women improved to 2-5 with a 101-77 victory over the Rangers. On the men's side, junior Tim Chamborvich (Allenhurst, NJ / Red Bank Regional) and sophomore
BLAISE LACCA ( Sewell, NJ / Washington Township) combined to win four events as the Red Hawk men rolled to a 111-57 victory to move to 2-4.
Uckar helped get Montclair of to a start as she swam the leadoff leg of the winning 400 medley relay team. Uckar teamed with
LAURA SPADONI ( Nazareth, PA / Nazareth Area),
LAURA FLYNN ( Andover, NJ / Lenape Valley) and
NICOLE VAN AVERY (North Brunwsick, NJ / North Brunswick) to post a time of 4:24.89. Uckar would later earn her own individual win in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:09.65. Spadoni took first in the 200 individual medley (2:24.93) and Flynn (2:22.98) and Van Avery (57.01) took the 200 and 100 butterfly, respectively.
Sophomore
GALINA LOUTCHOUK ( Richboro, PA / Council Rock) led a 1-2-3 finish for Montclair in the 1650 freestyle. Loutchouk went 19:25.52 and was followed by
JESSICA PATALANO ( Edison, NJ / Bishop Ahr) and
AMY WUKO (Wildwood Crest, NJ / Wildwood Catholic). Senior
RAQUEL ERWIN ( Ridgewood, NJ / Ridgewood) won the 50 freestyle as she clocked in at 25.75.
On the men's side, Chambrovich, a triple-winner and Lacca joined
JOHN ADAMS ( Wharton, NJ / Pope John XXIII) and
JON KURTZ ( Stockholm, NJ / Vernon Township) in winning the 400 medley relay (3:50.54). Chambrovich led a 1-2-3 showing in the 200 free style as he swam 1:51.74 followed by
MATT CAPPILLA (Barnegat, NJ / Southern Regional) (1:54.44) and
DEREK HENRICHSEN (West Allenhurst, NJ / Ocean Township) (1:58.79). He collected his third win of the evening by capturing the 100 butterly (50.10). Lacca posted his individual win in the 50 free with a time of 22.20.
Elsewhere for the MSU men,
KEVIN GROWNEY (Rockaway, NJ / Morris Hills) won the 200 fly (2:16.32) and freshman
DANIEL GORDON ( Northfield, NJ / Mainland Regional) made it an MSU sweep in the 1650 freestyle (18:22.36). In the 200 individual medley, freshman
CHRIS LEE ( Morris Plains, NJ / Parsippany Hills) edged out
MATT HYDE ( Clifton, NJ / Clifton) to win the event as the two swam times of 2:13.52 and 2:13.92, respectively.
The Red Hawks are now off until Saturday, January 17, 2009 as they return to dual meet action at Misericordia University in Dallas, PA. Prior to that MSU will take part in their annual training trip in San Juan, Puerto Rico scheduled for the beginning of January.
