Men's Soccer Keeps Rolling With 3-0 Shutout Over Rutgers-Newark

Newark, NJ (9/24/08) – Seventh-year head coach Brian Sentowski picked up his 100th career victory as #5 Montclair State downed Rutgers-Newark, 3-0, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match on Alumni Field.

A pair of first-half goals by junior forward JOSEPH CULLEN, who figured in all three Montclair State scores, were all the Red Hawks (9-0-0, NJAC 2-0-0) needed as senior goalkeeper NICK MELE made four second-half saves to post his fourth shutout of the season.

Cullen scored in the 13th minute on a penalty kick before taking a crossing feed into the box from his twin brother MICHAEL CULLEN on a throw-in by junior midfielder JOHN ESPOSITO in the 22nd minute.

Senior forward TYLER MASTERSON kept his streak of tallying at least one point in every Montclair State match this season when he headed a corner kick from the left side by JOSEPH CULLEN inside the near post in the 60th minute for the only goal of the second half.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kyle Perdelwitz made six saves to the Scarlet Raiders (6-4-0, NJAC 0-2-0) as the Red Hawks held advantages of 21-8 in shots and 15-1 in corner kicks.

Sentowski is now 100-25-12 at Montclair State, trailing only his current assistant coach, Montclair State Associate Athletic Director Rob Chesney, for victories at the school. Chesney tallied 128 wins in 11 seasons (1991-2001).
