Game Recap: Field Hockey |

No. 12 Field Hockey Stays Unbeaten, Tops Drew 2-0

Madison, NJ (9/24/08) – Sophomore forward DIANA COLOMBO (Westhampton, NJ / Rancocas Valley) scored first early in the second half, and classmate DEANA HAGEL (Fairfield, NJ / West Essex) followed with another just over five minutes as 12th-ranked Montclair State remained unbeaten with a 2-0 victory over Drew University.

Goalkeeper EMINA UDRJIA (West Paterson, NJ / Passaic Valley) stopped five shots for her third shutout of the season as Montclair State moved to 8-0 on the season.

The Red Hawks kept the Rangers on the back foot for most of the first ten minutes of play.  Lauren Fasano made a nice save to prevent a REBECCA DOBIESZ (Old Bridge, NJ / Old Bridge) shot from going in after six minutes of play following a Montclair corner.

Drew would get a decent chance off a corner when Elizabeth Law ripped a shot that Udrjia saved for the Red Hawks at the 14:17 mark as the game remained scoreless at the half. The Red Hawks broke the tie in the 45th minute of play.  Montclair's Dobiesz redirected a long pass in the area to Colombo at the far post for the easy tap in and a 1-0 lead. It was Colombos' team-leading seventh goal of the year.

Montclair increased its lead just five minutes later as a scrum in the area culminated in Hagel slamming home from close range.  JESSICA MURPHY (West Long Branch, NJ / Shore Regional) had collected the ball following a rebound before picking out Hagel.

Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, September 27, as they open NJAC play with a matchup against No. 7 Rowan University at Sprague Field.
