Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Stuns No. 14 TCNJ 1-0

Ewing, NJ (9/27/08) - Montclair State the scored the game's only goal in the opening half as the Red Hawks stopped The College of New Jersey women's soccer team's 38-game conference unbeaten streak with a 1-0 win on Saturday.

The 14th-ranked Lions had gone 36-0-2 over that span before Saturday's loss dropped them to 1-1-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference and 5-4-1 overall. With the win, the Red Hawks moved to 5-4 on the season and 2-1 in the conference.

Montclair State was also responsible for TCNJ's last conference loss as they posted a 2-1 victory over the Lions on October 25, 2003 at MSU Soccer Park. The win was also just the Red Hawks' second in 25 meetings with the Lions (2-21-2).

The Red Hawks scored that deciding goal 12:01 into the game as ANGELA MARTONE (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) slide a pass through TCNJ's defense to a breaking RACHEL SENYSZYN (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury), who scored her sixth goal of the season.

The Lions did have a couple of chances to pull even in the final minutes, but senior Jamie Kunkel's (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) shot from inside the penalty area sailed high and Laura Delaney's (River Vale, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) direct kick was saved by MSU keeper LEAH TEPPERMAN (North Andover, MA/North Andover) for one of her five saves.

In goal for the Lions, junior Jessica Clarke (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) started and finished with two saves, while sophomore Katie Piotrowski (Rahway, NJ/Union Catholic) made three in the second half.

MSU is right back on the field tomorrow with a non-conference game at Catholic University in a 12:30 p.m. start.
