Lacca, Erwin Lead Swimming Past Ramapo and King's

Mahwah, NJ (1/29/09) – Sophomore BLAISE LACCA ( Sewell, NJ / Washington Township) was a triple-winner for the men while senior Raquel Ewrin ( Ridgewood, NJ / Ridgewood) won two events on the women's side as Montclair State swept a tri-meet at Ramapo College on Thursday evening.

The MSU men (6-6, 1-2 NJAC) climbed back to the .500 mark while stretching its winning streak to three as the Red Hawks downed Ramapo 53-37 and King's College, 63-27). Meanwhile the women's teams topped Ramapo 55-34 and King's 53-37 to move to 6-7 overall, 1-2 in the NJAC.

Lacca got the Red Hawks off on the right foot as he swam the anchor leg of the winning 200 medley relay team. Lacca, JOHN ADAMS ( Wharton, NJ / Pope John XXIII), SEAN FRENCH ( Cranford, NJ / Cranford) and JON KURTZ ( Stockholm, NJ / Vernon Township) posted a time of 1:42.53. Montclair would go 1-2 in each of the next three events. Dan Gordon ( Northfield, NJ / Mainland Regional) won the 1000 freestyle (10:59.01) while MATT HYDE ( Clifton, NJ / Clifton) took the top spot in the 200 freestyle (1:55.44).

Lacca picked up his first individual event as he registered a time of 22.96 in the 50 freestyle. KEVIN GROWNEY (Rockaway, NJ / Morris Hills) captured the 200 butterfly (2:13.05) and Montclair went 1-2 in the 100 freestyle with Lacca earning top honors with a time of 50.40.

On the women's side, the Red Hawks won the first seven events. LAUREN UCKAR (Manalapan, NJ / Manalapan), LAURA SPADONI (Nazareth, PA / Nazareth Area), LAURA FLYNN (Andover, NJ / Lenape Valley) and Erwin teamed together to win the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:59.78. Erwin would collect her win in the 50 freestyle as she clocked in at 25.84. Flynn also won an individual event taking first in the 200 butterfly. 2:30.24.

JESSICA PATALANO ( Edison, NJ / Bishop Ahr) won the 1000 freestyle (11:55.55) and KAITLIN MUCHLER ( Vineland, NJ / Vineland) took first place in the 200 freestyle (2:09.27). Sophomore GALINA LOUTCHOUK ( Richboro, PA / Council Rock) captured the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:23.94 and freshman NICOLE VAN AVERY ( North Brunswick, NJ / North Brunswick) won the 100 freestyle recording a time of 57.58.

The Red Hawks are now off until Saturday, February 7 when they take part in their final dual meet of the season. Montclair heads to Wayne to face local rival William Paterson in a 1:00 pm dual meet at the Wightman Pool.
