Game Recap: Field Hockey |

DiPaolo Leads Field Hockey Past Ramapo

Montclair, NJ (10/28/09) – Senior forward JUSTINE DIPAOLO (Lanoka Harbor, NJ / Lacey Township) scored once and assisted on the other goals as Montclair State scored the final three times in a 3-1 victory over Ramapo College at Sprague Field on Wednesday evening.

Sophomore defender KELLY CHURCHILL (Newton, NJ / Newton) also added a goal as the Red Hawks improved to 10-6 on the season while squaring their NJAC record at 2-2. It is the 10th straight year that Montclair has won 10 or more games in a season.

Amanda Mavrakes (Wayne, NJ / Wayne Hills) scored once for the Roadrunners, who dropped their second straight following a three-game winning streak. Ramapo is now 6-8 overall, 1-3 in the conference.

Montclair State got the first three shots of the game; however, Ramapo got on the scoreboard first as Mavrakes collected her fourth goal of the year – an unassisted tally at the 23:11 mark of the opening period. Montclair State would tie the game with 4:55 remaining as MELISSA BUTTRAY (Boonton, NJ / Boonton) registered her fifth goal as the game was deadlocked at one heading to the break.

In the second half, the teams traded shots on goal as each goalkeeper made two stops in the first seven minutes. Montclair would then take the lead at 50:30 on Churchill's first goal of the season. DiPaolo then capped off the scoring with 4:02 to play as she netted her sixth of the year for the final margin.

Montclair State goalkeeper MEGAN BOSLAND (Boonton, NJ / Boonton) made nine saves for the Red Hawks while Roadrunners netminder Megan Tierney (Wayne, NJ / Wayne Hills) stopped seven shots.

Each team had 19 shots in the contest, with Ramapo holding an 11-10 edge in penalty corners.

Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, October 24, as the Red Hawks host local rival William Paterson in a 1:00 pm NJAC matchup at Sprague Field. Ramapo is also in action that day in a non-conference tilt. The Roadrunners host New Paltz at 1:00 pm in Mahwah, NJ.
