Hagel Scores Three Times in Overtime Win Over New Paltz

New Paltz, NY (10/7/09) - Junior forward DEANA HAGEL (Fairfield, NJ / West Essex) scored all three goals, including the game-winner 8:20 into overtime as Montclair State edged New Paltz, 3-2 on the Turf Field at SUNY New Paltz on Wednesday evening.

Hagel had a chance to put Montclair up 1-0 in the 13th minute, but her shot on the wide-open net was wide. The teams played an even first half with the Red Hawks holding a 2-1 shot advantage.

Just 1:42 into the second half, Hagel gave the Red Hawks the 1-0 advantage when the cross from DIANA COLOMBO (Westampton, NJ / Rancocas Valley) set Hagel up for the goal. Six minutes later, Hagel netted her second goal of the game off a pass from REBECCA DOBIESZ (Old Bridge, NJ / Old Bridge).

The Hawks battled back from 2-0, getting their first goal of the game in the 63rd minute when Stacey Miller scored her second goal off a pass from Maryana Organidis. The tying goal was netted by Hannah Peters on a penalty stroke in the 68th minute after a dangerous call was made by the referee. Montclair tried to counter by substituted their back-up goalie in for the penalty stroke, but was unsuccessful.

Six minutes into the overtime session, Montclair's MEGAN WALSH (Lumberton, NJ / Rancocas Valley) set a ball up the middle of the field to Hagel, who was one-on-one with the keeper and made a move to beat the goalie for the game-winning goal. 

The Red Hawks held a 6-3 shot advantage for the game and a 14-3 edge in corners.

MEGAN BOSLAND (Boonton, NJ / Boonton) recorded the win in net, allowing one goal and facing three shots. NOELL GOMEZ (Fairfield, NJ / West Essex) allowed the Hawks second on the penalty stroke. 

Montclair improves to 7-4 overall.

Starter Elizabeth Tong allowed two goals and saved one shot in 48:09 minutes. Elizabeth Dini recorded the loss in net, saving one shot and allowing the overtime goal in 30:11 minutes.

The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday, October 10, as they travel to Wilkes-Barre, PA, to face King's College at 1:00 pm.
