Swimming and Diving Sweeps Adelphi

Montclair, NJ (11/7/09) – Freshmen ASHLEY VALLONE (Park Ridge, NJ / Park Ridge) and MICHAEL SMITH (Cherry Hill, NJ / Cherry Hill East) combined for four individual event wins as Montclair State swept a dual meet against Adelphi University at the Panzer Athletic Center Pool on Saturday afternoon.

LAURA SPADONI (Nazareth, PA / Nazareth Area) added a pair of victories as the Red Hawks each earned their first victories of the season. The MSU men downed the Panthers 106.5-86.5 to move to 1-2 on the year while the women are the same record following their 115-64 triumph.

Vallone captured both the 50 and 100 freestyles in addition to helping the 200 medley relay team to a first-place finish. She led a 1-2-3 MSU finish in the 50 free as she timed in at 26.21. CHRISTINA CROSSIN (Milford, CT / Lauralton Hall) and JACKY MOE (Rutherford, NJ / Rutherford) posted times of 26.99 and 28.31, respectively. Vallone also clocked in at 57.52 in the 100 free as she again led a sweep of the event for the Red Hawks. Crossin (59.06) was second followed by ALICE SROGA (Mahwah, NJ / Mahwah) (1:02.32).

Vallone then teamed with Spadoni, Crossin and LAURA FLYNN (Andover, NJ / Lenape Valley) for a victory in the relay as the quartet timed in at 2:00.81.

GALINA LOUTCHOUK (Richboro, PA / Council Rock) won the 1000 freestyle in a time of 11:43.30 while Flynn picked up a victory in the 100 butterfly registering a time of 1:05.92. Spadoni got her second win in the 200 IM with a time of 2:25.31 with LAUREN UCKAR (Manalapan, NJ / Manalapan) winning the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:08.95. KELLY ABNER (Glenwood, NJ / Vernon) won the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:09.46.

On the men's side, Smith won the 200 and 500 freestyles with times of 1:53.89 and 5:18.92, respectively. Junior BLAISE LACCA (Sewell, NJ / Washington Township) took first in the 100 freestyle (50.44) and he also finished second to THOMAS LONG (Morristown, NJ / Morristown) in the 50 free. Long swam 22.87, edging out Lacca who timed in a 22.91.

Dan Gordon (Northfield, NJ / Mainland Regional) won the 1000 freestyle as he beat out teammate MATT HYDE (Clifton, NJ / Clifton) with a time of 11:12.50. Hyde came in at 11:13.70.

The Red Hawks are off until next Saturday, November 14 when they travel to Mahwah, NJ for an NJAC dual meet with Ramapo College beginning at 1:00 pm.
