Montclair, NJ (3/26/09) – Freshman attack MAGGIE FALLON (Cherry Hill, NJ / Camden Catholic) scored six times while sophomore KAYLA HENDERSON (Succasunna, NJ / Roxbury) added three goals and an assist as Montclair State picked up its first win of the season, snapping a seven-game losing streak as the Red Hawks downed Wellesley College, 16-10 in NCAA Division III women's lacrosse action at Sprague Field on Thursday afternoon.

Senior MARYKATE DIBENEDETTO (Cinnaminson, NJ / Cinnaminson) recorded the 100th goal of her career and finished with two goals and three assists as the Red Hawks (1-6) won for the first time since May 3 of last year when it defeated Kean to capture the Skyline Conference championship.

Freshman Midfielder Meredith Roy (Merrimack, NH/Phillips Exeter) scored three times for Wellesley, which fell back to .500 mark at 3-3 with its second consecutive loss. The Blue lost at Drew on Monday, 12-11.

Wellesley scored the first two goals of the game as Kayla Bolton (Beverly Hills, MI / Birmingham Groves) and Molly Morrow (Bow, NH / Bow) connected in the first 5:47 of the contest. Montclair State would answer on goals by Henderson and Fallon 19 seconds apart, but Bolton's second goal with 20:51 to play put the Blue back in front 3-2.  Fallon then began a three-goal run by Montclair , including a MORGAN MACPHEE (Toms River, NJ / Toms River East) that gave the Red Hawks a 5-3 lead with 15:03 to play.

Jenny Hollan (Bethesda, MD / Sidwell Friends) cut the deficit back to a goal two minutes later, however Montclair took control with a five-goal spur en route to an 11-5 halftime lead. CARLA DAVIS (Decatur, GA / Decatur) sparked the run and goals by LAUREN ADAMS (Jackson, NJ / Jackson Memorial) and Fallon made the score 7-4 with 8:47 left before halftime. Following Fallon's second of the game, CORA DELFINI (New Egypt, NJ / New Egypt) and Henderson scored 39 second apart as Montclair led 10-4 with four minutes o go. Caitlin Meeker (Columbia, MD/ Oakland Mills) stopped the MSU run with a goal with 1:57 to go, but Henderson found the back of the net with 40 seconds to play as Montclair went into the break up six.

In the second half, MacPhee's goal with 25:10 remaining put Montclair ahead 13-6 but Wellesley made a run scoring three straight, all by Roy with the final coming with 15:02 to go that cut the Montclair State lead to 13-9. Fallon ended the threat with a goal as Montclair would net two of the final three tallies. Among the two was a goal by DiBenedetto with 4:42 left as she became the 10th player in program history to score 100 career goals.

Freshman goalkeeper TRACEY MANELLA (Haworth, NJ / Northern Valley-Demarest) stopped 12 shots for MSU, which outshot Wellesley, 38-27 in the game. MacPhee added five ground balls, five draws and two caused turnovers.

Sophomore goalkeeper Mary Mattia (Atlanta, GA / Lovett School) made 14 saves for Wellesley. Roy collected five draws and three ground balls.

Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, March 28 as the Red Hawks open up Skyline Conference play with a home contest against New York Maritime at 1:00 pm. Wellesley is back home on Wednesday, April 1 against Endicott College at 4:30 pm.
