Montclair, NJ (10/16/10) –  Montclair State got goal scoring from five different players as the Red Hawks remained in first place in the New Jersey Athletic Conference with a 5-0 blanking of New Jersey City University at Sprague Field on Saturday evening.

Seniors CORON SHORT (Dayton, NJ / South Brunswick) and THOMAS BENACK (Sparta, NJ / Lenape Valley) had first-half goals as the Red Hawks won their third straight improving to 11-2-2 overall, 6-1-0 in the NJAC. MSU had 18 points to sit atop the league standings, two points ahead of The College of New Jersey with two league matches remaining.

Freshman goalkeeper Zakary Azmi (New Milford, NJ / Emerson) made five saves for the Gothic Knights, who fell to 6-9 overall, 1-6 in the conference.

Short gave Montclair State at 1-0 lead at the 17:04 mark of the contest knocking in a pass from LARRY GERAGHTY (Cranford, NJ / St. Benedict's Prep) for his second goal of the season. Benack extended the lead to 2-0 just under seven minutes later collecting his third of the year on an unassisted tally as Montclair State led 2-0 at the half.

Senior MIKE PYTLAR (Califon, NJ / West Morris) made it a three-goal lead 2:34 into the second half netting his seventh goal of the year before SEAN PAULS (Denville, NJ / Morris Knolls) deposited a pass from MIKE KROL (Howell, NJ / Howell) into the back of the net at 65:40 making the score 4-0.

Junior DAN HERNANDEZ (Englewood, NJ / Paramus Catholic) accounted for the final goal with his first career marker.

Sophomore goalkeeper ANTHONY ROGIC (Boonton, NJ / Morris Catholic) made two saves as he recorded his seventh shutout of the season and the Red Hawks' eighth as a team.

Montclair State dominated the statistical department as they outshot the Gothic Knights, 21-4 and took 14 of the 16 corner kicks in the contest.

Montclair State returns to action on Monday, October 18 as the Red Hawks host Hunter College at MSU Soccer Park beginning at 3:30 pm. New Jersey City is home on Wednesday, October 20 taking on Brooklyn College at 4:00 pm.
