Camden, NJ (10/2/10) – Montclair State University sophomore forward
RACHEL SENYSZYN (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) collected the only goal of the game early in the first half, and the Red Hawks went on to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 1-0, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference women's soccer game Saturday afternoon at Rutgers-Camden Community Park.
Montclair State improves to 5-5-2 overall and 2-3 in the NJAC, while Rutgers-Camden falls to 1-7-2 and 0-3-2.
Senyszyn scored the game's lone goal – her team-leading eighth of the season – only 13:16 into the contest. She hit a looping shot from 35 yards out that sailed over the head of Raptor freshman goalie Leighanna Milby (Blackwood, NJ/Highland Regional) and just under the crossbar.
Montclair State out-shot Rutgers-Camden, 16-0, in the game and played most of the contest on the Raptors' defensive half of the field, but a strong defensive effort by the Raptors made most of the Red Hawks' shots come from outside the box.
The Red Hawks also held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks, with the lone Rutgers-Camden corner kick coming in the game's closing seconds.
Milby made five saves for the Raptors, while Red Hawks sophomore
MARISA ZAYAC (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) didn't need to make a save to notch her third shutout of the season.
Montclair State is now off until Wednesday, October 13, when it hosts Kean University at 7 p.m.
