Red Hawks Fall to Baruch, FDU-Florham in Home Tri-Match

Montclair, NJ (10/23/10)  - The Montclair State volleyball team dropped a pair of matches in a home tri-match on Saturday as the Red Hawks fell to both Baruch College and FDU-Florham in four sets.

Freshman MARTA TOPOR (Bogota, NJ / Bogota) posted 21 kills and 20 digs while freshman libero Kaitlin Irwin (Cranford, NJ / Cranford) tallied 53 digs as the Red Hawks fell to 4-26 on the season. MSU lost to Baruch for the second time this season as the Red Hawks won the first set 27-25 before falling 25-21, 25-17, 25-21. Montclair then split its first two sets with FDU-Florham, 11-25 and 25-22 with the Devils taking the final two sets 25-11, 25-15.

Topor had 11 kills, three service aces and 10 digs in the loss to Baruch. ALYSSA BATISTE (Manahawkin, NJ / Southern Regional) added seven kills, 12 assists and 11 digs while MEGAN COCKCROFT (Rutherford, NJ / Rutherford) had eight kills, and 10 digs along with a pair of service aces. Irwin registered 27 digs and BELLA MILSTEIN (Edison, NJ / JP Stevens) posted 16 assists.

Topor collected another double-double with 19 kills and 10 digs along with three aces in the loss to FDU-Florham. Batiste chipped in with nine kills, seven assists and four digs. Milstein led MSU with 16 assists. Irwin had 26 digs, the 12th time this season she has topped 20 digs in a match.

The Red Hawks return to action on Thursday, October 28 with their final NJAC contest. MSU, currently 3-4 in the conference, battles first-place Richard Stockton in a rematch of last year's NJAC Championship Match won by the Ospreys. First serve in Pomona, NJ is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
