New York, NY (10/30/10) – The Montclair State volleyball team captured the final two sets for a 3-2 victory over Farmingdale State as the Red Hawks split their first two matches at the Hunter Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
MSU (5-28) trailed 2-1 (20-25, 25-14, 24-26) before squaring its match with a 25-18 win in the fourth set. Montclair then took the decisive fifth set 20-18. Earlier in the day, the Red Hawks lost to Old Westbury in four sets (22-25, 26-28, 25-21, 25-27).

MEGAN COCKCROFT (Rutherford, NJ / Rutherford) posted 14 kills in the win over Farmingdale while classmate
MARTA TOPOR (Bogota, NJ / Bogota) had a double-double with 10 kills and 15 digs. Sophomore
ALYSSA BATISTE (Manahwkin, NJ / Southern Regional) recorded nine kills and 13 assists with setter
BELLA MILSTEIN (Edison, NJ / JP Stevens) notching a team-beat 16 assists. Freshman libero
KAITLYN IRWIN (Cranford, NJ / Cranford) continued to add to her single-season record for digs with 29.
Topor had 10 kills and 10 digs in the loss to Old Westbury. Cockcroft contributed five kills with Batiste getting seven kills and 17 assists. Milstein posted nine assists and six digs with Irwin topping the 30-dig mark for the fifth time this season
The Red Hawks conclude action in the Hunter Invitational on Sunday, October 31 with a pair of matches. MSU will then take on third-seeded Rutgers-Camden in the opening round of the NJAC Volleyball Championship Tournament on Tuesday, November 2 in Camden at 7:00 pm.
