Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Knocks Off Eastern Connecticut for Sixth Straight Win

Mansfield, CT (10/5/10) – Sophomore defender Will' O'Connor (Wyckoff, NJ / Ramapo) scored the first goal with freshman DAN MENDOZA (Hackensack, NJ / Hackensack) picking up the second as Montclair State scored twice in the second half en route to a 2-0 win over Eastern Connecticut at the Mansfield Complex on Wednesday evening.

Sophomore goalkeeper ANTHONY ROGIC (Boonton, NJ / Boonton) recorded his sixth shutout of the season as the Red Hawks posted their sixth straight victory, improving to 8-1-2 on the season.
Scoreless through the first 50 minutes of the contest, Montclair State broke through at the 51:30 mark of the game.

Senior forward LARRY GERAGHTY (Cranford, NJ / St. Benedict's Prep) lofted a corner kick into the box where O'Connor was there to deposit the ball into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.

That goal would prove to be enough as the Red Hawks limited the Warriors to just three shots overall, one in the second half.

Mendoza would provide and insurance goal as he scored his team-leading seventh goal. The score would come on another corner kick, one of eight by MSU.

CHRIS TATRO (Somerville, NJ / Somerville) took the corner kick and served a ball to the far post. Mendoza then one-timed the ball for the goal and a 2-0 Montclair State advantage with 9:43 remaining.

MSU outshot Eastern Connecticut 18-3 and had an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The Red Hawks return to action on Thursday, October 7 as they make the short nine-mile trip to Wayne, NJ to face William Paterson for the second time beginning at 7:00 pm. The teams will replay their September 22 rain out that was halted in the first half with the Pioneers leading 1-0. The game will be restarted from the beginning.
