Swimming Sweeps Dual Meet Against Drew

Madison, NJ (11/12/10) – Freshman Kelsi Donahue (Egg Harbor, NJ / Egg  Harbor Township) and sophomore ASHLEY VALLONE (Park Ridge, NJ / Park Ridge) were triple-winners while freshman JOSEPH BERRY (Edison, NJ / Edison) collected a pair of individual events for the men as Montclair State swept a dual meet with Drew University on Friday evening.

The Red Hawks women's team won their second straight evening their record at 2-2 following a 162-90 win against the Rangers. The men's team is also 2-2 with a second consecutive victory as MSU knocked off the hosts, 139-95.

Donahue and Vallone began combined with KELLY ABNER (Glenwood, NJ / Vernon) and LAURA SPADONI (Nazareth, PA / Nazareth Area) to win the 400 medley relay in the first event of the day. The quartet swam 4:19.65. Donahue would add victories in the 50 and 1000 freestyle races with times of 30.53 and 11:34.07, respectively. Vallone got her wins in the 200 freestyle as she swam 2:03.31 edging out Abner (2:04.28), who finished second. Vallone then won the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:18.34.

Spadoni got a first-place finish in the 50 breaststroke recording a time of 33.61. CHRISTINA CROSSIN (Milford, CT / Lauralton Hall) led a 1-2 finish in the 100 freestyle, timing in at 58.41 with JACKY MOE (Rutherford, NJ / Rutherford) coming in second. Those two them teamed with GALINA LOUTCHOUK (Richboro, PA / Council Rock) and ALLIE GOLDEN (Denville, NJ / Morris Knolls) to win the 400 freestyle relay (4:00.2).

Berry took top honors in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:43.27. He then combined with MICHAEL SMITH (Cherry Hill, NJ / Cherry Hill East), THOMAS LONG (Morristown, NJ / Morristown) and ZAK WESTERBERG (Hamilton, NJ / Hamilton North) to win the 400 freestyle relay (3:20.04).

Smith added a second win in the 500 freestyle (5:03.69) and Blasie Lacca (Sewell, NJ / Washington Township) led a 1-2 finish by MSU in the 100 freestyle. Lacca swam 49.52 touching in just ahead of Westerberg.

Lacca swam the anchor leg on the winning 400 medley relay. He was joined by NIKOLAS LUMKONG (Byram, NJ / Pope John XXIII), SHAWN CHAMBROVICH (Allenhurst, NJ / Red Bank Regional) and MICHAEL VOLSKI (Edison, NJ / Edison) for a time of 3:49.61.

CHRIS LEE (Morris Plains, NJ / Parsippany Hills) finished first in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 29:21.  

Montclair State goes back to work immediately as MSU hosts Division I St. Peter's and New Jersey Tech at the Panzer Athletic Center Pool on Saturday, November 13 at 1:00 pm.
