Montclair, NJ (3/20/10) – Junior attack
KAYLA HENDERSON (Landing, NJ / Roxbury) scored four goals and was one of 10 different Montclair State players to find the back of the net as the Red Hawks raced past Mount St. Vincent, 19-5 in the Skyline Conference opener for both teams at Sprague Field on Saturday afternoon.
Junior
MEGHAN SPITZER (Mount Olive, NJ / Mount Olive) scored three times and assisted on two other goals as Montclair improved to 2-3 overall, 1-0 in the Skyline Conference.
Jesse Mitchell (Suffern, NY / Suffern) and Kelly Martin (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) had two goals apiece for the Dolphins, who dropped to 0-3 on the season (0-1 Skyline).
Mount St. Vincent took a 1-0 lead with 25:28 to play in the opening half as Mitchell fed Martin in front for the game's first goal. Montclair would respond quickly as
MAGGIE FALLON (Cherry Hill, NJ / Camden Catholic) tied the contest 20 seconds later on an unassisted tally. Julia Caro (Mamaroneck, NY / Mamaroneck) put the Dolphins back in front at 5:20 of the game, however Montclair would run off the next 10 goals en route to a 14-3 halftime advantage.
Freshman
KAILEE BEAL (Succasunna, NJ / Roxbury) started the run with an unassisted goal and Henderson scored the first and last of three man-advantage goals as MSU led 8-2 with 18:28 to go before intermission. Henderson would add her third goal in the run and then assisted on Beal's second of the game to make the score 10-2 with 6:43 to play. Spitzer capped off the run with a free-position marker.
JAMIE HUDACKO (Montville, NJ / Montville), Beal,
CORA DELFINI (New Egypt, NJ / New Egypt) and
JESSICA CURRAN (Yorktown Heights, NJ / Lakeland) each had two goals for Montclair State. Defender Kristin Quigley (Mount Laurel, NJ / Lenape) added a goal and posted seven draw controls. Ashley Krzysik (Landing, NJ / Roxbury) had a goal, assist, five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Goalkeeper
TIFFANI HENDERSON (Landing, NJ / Roxbury) and Tracy Manella (Haworth, NJ / NV-Demarest) each played a half making seven and two saves, respectively.
The Red hawks are back in action on Wednesday, March 24 as they host Farmingdale State at Sprague Field in a 7:00 pm matchup. The game will be a rematch of last year's Skyline Conference Championship Game won by the Rams, 16-13 ending Montclair's three-year reign as conference champions. Farmingdale is the only Skyline team to defeat the Red Hawks since the league's inception in 2006.
