Scranton, PA (4/1/10) — Freshman attacker KAILEE BEAL (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) scored three goals and sophomore midfielder CORA DELFINI (New Egypt, N.J./New Egypt), junior attacker KAYLA HENDERSON (Landing, N.J./Roxbury), and senior midfielder MORGAN MACPHEE (Toms River, N.J./Toms River) chipped in two apiece to lead Montclair State University to a 12-10 victory over The University of Scranton Thursday evening at Fitzpatrick Field.

The Royals, who had a three-game winning streak snapped to fall to 4-5, were led by first-year midfielder Jilliana DePaolera (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) with three goals and an assist and junior defender Katie Slade (Buckingham, Pa./Central Bucks East) and sophomore attacker Kaela Mahon (Avon-by-the-Sea, N.J./Saint Rose) contributed two goals apiece.

Tied 5-5 at intermission, the Red Hawks built up two four-goal leads by dominating the draw controls, winning 11 of the 13 in the final 30 minutes of play.

MacPhee scored back-to-back goals with a four-minute span at the start of the second half to give Montclair State a lead it never relinquished, 7-5.

Scranton, which trailed by four with 15 minutes remaining, cut the gap down to two on an unassisted goal by DePaolera and one by Slade off a free position with less than three minutes remaining.

In the closing minute, Red Hawk freshman goalie TIFFANI HENDERSON (Landing, N.J./Roxbury) came up with a key save by knocking away a free-position shot by Scranton first-year attacker Shannon Howe (Pearl River, N.y./Pearl River).  Henderson finished with 14 saves, as did Royal senior goalie Cassie Murphy (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur).

Scranton overcame early 2-1 and 3-2 deficits with goals by junior midfielder Kristin Pickell (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon), DePaolera, and Howe to take a 5-3 lead with four minutes remaining before intermission.  Montclair St. got the momentum back in its favor behind back-to-back goals by senior midfielder JAMIE HUDACKO (Montville, N.J./Montville) and sophomore defender ALEX SCERBAK (Clinton, N.J./Clinton) within a 21-second span to tie it at 5-5 by halftime.

The Red Hawks held a 38-30 advantage in shots and kept the Royals on defense by winning 16 of 24 draw controls.  Scranton did, however, convert 4 of 7 free-position shots for goals.
