Women's Soccer Draws With Eastern Connecticut

Purchase, NY (9/11/10) – Freshman forward ALYSSA DIACHEYSN (Nutley, NJ / Nutley) gave Montclair State an early 1-0 lead before Eastern Connecticut got the equalizer as the Red Hawks and Warriors played to a 1-1 draw at the Manhattanville Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

ALLISON WACKER (Stockholm, NJ / Wallkill Valley) and NICOLE ANULEWICZ (Woodbridge, NJ / Woodbridge) each had assists as the Red Hawks are now 1-2-2 on the season.

The Red Hawks got on the board in the 16th minute as Diacheysn netted her first collegiate goal. Anulewicz crossed the ball over to Wacker, who managed to flick another header over to Diacheysn. Diachesyn then deposited the ball into the back of the net for the goal as MSU led 1-0.

Eastern Connecticut would nearly tie the game just over two minutes later; however, KATIE HAZZARD (Clementon, NJ / Highland Regional) swept away a ball off the backline as Montclair carried its one-goal advantage into the break. The Warriors tied the game at the 57-minute mark. Nicole Leonard deflected a ball in the box and put away shot from inside the six-yard line as the game was tied at 1-1.

Neither team would manage much over the final 33 minutes, but Montclair came within inches of a victory in the first overtime. JENNA CARROLL (East Brunswick, NJ / East Brunswick) headed a shot that appeared headed in only to be knocked off the backline by Megan Goodwin.

Eastern Connecticut would get a chance of its own in the closing moments of the first overtime, but MARISA ZAYAC (Jackson, NJ / Jackson Memorial) came up with the last of her four saves.

Montclair returns to action in the tournament on Sunday, September 12, as MSU takes on host Manhattanville at 12:00 pm.
