Hagel's First Half Goals Sends Field Hockey Past Susquehanna

Montclair, NJ (9/18/10) – Senior forward DEANA HAGEL (Fairfield, NJ / West Essex) scored on a penalty corner with 8:34 remaining in the first half, which turned out to be the lone goal of the game as Montclair State posted its fifth straight victory, 1-0 over Susquehanna at Sprague Field on Saturday evening.

Sophomore goalkeeper MEGAN BOSLAND (Boonton, NJ / Boonton) stopped four shots for her first shutout of the season as the Red Hawks moved to 5-1.

Margaret Ruth had two saves for Susquehanna, which fell to 4-3 with the loss.

Hagel collected her fifth goal of the season at the 24:26 mark of the half. Off a penalty corner, JESSICA MURPHY (West Long Branch, NJ / Shore Regional) fired a shot from 15 yards out on the left side. Hagel was able to redirect the ball in for the goal as Montclair State led 1-0 at the break.

That lead would hold up as the Red Hawk defense allowed just three shots over the final 35 minutes. Bosland made a pair of saves early in the period as she denied Ally Bradley three minutes in and then came up with a stop on an attempt by Erica Reichart at 6:01 of the period.

The Red Hawks return to action on Wednesday, April 22, as they open up New Jersey Athletic Conference play. Montclair hosts Kean University at Sprague Field beginning at 7:00 pm.
