Red Hawks Split Again at Kean Invitational

Union, NJ (9/17/10) – Sophomore ALYSSA BATISTE (Manahawkin, NJ / Southern Regional) had 15 kills, 26 assists and seven digs as Montclair State rallied from two sets down for a five-set victory over Centenary College as the Red Hawks split their final two matches at the Kean Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman libero KAITLYN IRWIN (Cranford, NJ / Cranford) registered 48 digs in the victory and was named to the All-Tournament Team as the Red Hawks (2-12) finished 2-2 in the tournament. MSU dropped the first two sets with Centenary 25-20 and 25-22 before rallying in the final three sets, 25-19, 25-23 and 15-6 in the decisive fifth set. Earlier in the day, Montclair fell to Berry (GA), 25-9, 25-9, 25-23.

Batiste was one of four Red Hawks to get double-digit kill totals in the win. Freshman MARTA TOPOR (Bogota, NJ / Bogota) had 13 kills along with five service aces and 10 digs while KRISTEN BRONOWICH (Secaucus, NJ / Secaucus) totaled 12 kills and 19 digs. SARA GIRGUS (Green Brook, NJ / Watchung Hills) had 10 kills and four service aces. Setter BELLA MILSTEIN (Edison, NJ / JP Stevens) chipped in with 19 assists and 12 digs.

Girgus and Bronowich had four kills apiece for Montclair State in the loss to Berry. Irwin posted 15 digs while Batiste recorded six assists and seven digs along with two kills.

The Red Hawks return home to the Panzer Athletic Center on Tuesday, September 21 as MSU hosts Rowan in an NJAC matchup beginning at 7:00 pm.
