Montclair Taken Down by Polytechnic, Brooklyn College

Montclair, NJ (9/25/10) – Junior KRISTEN BRONOWICH (Secaucus, NJ / Secaucus) collected 20 kills and 20 digs in two matches, however it wasn't enough as Montclair State dropped a pair of matches to NYU-Polytechnic and Brooklyn College in a tri-match at the Panzer Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore ALYSSA BATISTE (Manahawkin, NJ / Southern Regional) added 17 kills, 28 assists and 20 digs as MSU fell to 2-16 on the year. Montclair dropped a three-set decision to Polytechnic (25-17, 25-19, 25-21) before losing in five sets to Brooklyn College (25-16, 23-25, 23-25, 25-20, 16-14).

Bronowich registered a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs in the loss to Polytechnic.  Batiste added six kills, six assists and eight digs with BELLA MILSTEIN (Edison, NJ / JP Stevens) getting 15 assists to go along with eight digs. Libero KAITLYN IRWIN (Cranford, NJ / Cranford) had a match-high 22 digs and freshman MARTA TOPOR (Bogota, NJ / Bogota) chipped in with five kills and seven digs.

Against Brooklyn College, Montclair won the first set before dropping the next two byb the identical two-point margins. Behind five service aces by Irwin and four kills by RHIANNA RATTA (Belleville, NJ / Belleville) the Red Hawks squared the match at 2-2 with a win in the fourth set.

In the decisive fifth set fell behind 4-1 but eventually tied the set at 13-13 on a kill by Bronowich. The teams would trade the next two points before the Bulldogs got the next two to take the contest in five.

Bronowich had another 10-kill, 10 digs performance and added three aces. Batiste posted a triple-double with 11 kills, 22 assists and 12 digs. Irwin finished with seven aces along with 42 digs, the second time she has topped 40 digs in a match this season. Topor and Ratta had seven kills apiece with Milstein adding 20 assists and 14 digs.

The Red Hawks return to action on Thursday, September 30 as they head to Mahwah, NJ to face Ramapo College in a conference matchup at the Bradley Center. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
