Glassboro, NJ (1/15/11) – Junior forward Lauren Gregg (Collingswood, NJ / Collingswood) scored on a layup with four seconds remaining as Rowan University slipped past Montclair State, 73-71 in an NJAC inter-divisional matchup at the Esby Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

Junior guard JAIME ERICSON (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) scored a game-high 23 points while senior forward KISANDRA AYANBEKU (Brockton, MA / Randolph) posted a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds as the Red Hawks fell to 7-9 overall, 1-4 in the NJAC.

Ericson, MSU's all-time leader in three-point field goals, connected on 6-of-8 from three-point range in the game as she tied the MSU single-game record with six three-pointers. Ericson tied the record set by Cathy Madalone in 1990 and equalled by Erin Schultz against Rutgers-Camden in 2002.

MSU trailed by six points early but used a 22-5 run through the midway point of the first half to take an 11-point advantage with 6:38 left in the opening period. Trailing 16-10, Ericson and freshman THERESA TOWNS (Morristown, NJ / Morristown) combined for eight points as took the leadt a 18-16 with 10:21 left. Ericson then added three three-pointers in the spurt as MSU led 32-21.

However the Profs countered with a 16-point run to end the half as Rowan led 37-32 at the break.

In the second half, a jumper by Gregg, who finished with 13 points, put Rowan up 59-44 with 12:15 to go before Montclair started a rally of its own. Over the next 10 minutes, the Red Hawks chipped away at the deficit and tied the game at 71-71 on tow free throws by Towns with 1:50 to go.

Each team would miss their opportunities on the respective possessions and a turnover by MSU with 52 seconds left gave the Profs the ball. Gregg misfired on a jumper but the loose-ball rebound went back to the Profs. Following a timeout with 18 seconds left, Gregg scored giving Rowan the lead 73-71 with four seconds to play.

Montclair would get one last chance, but Sara Kelley's (Newtown, CT / Newtown) three-pointer at the buzzer missed the mark.

Towns finished with 10 points and seven assists for MSU. DEVIN FEENEY (Whippany, NJ / Whippany Park) added seven points off the bench.

The Red Hawks return to action on Wednesday, January 19 as they host Rutgers-Newark at the Panzer Athletic Center. Tip-off in the second game of the NJAC doubleheader is slated for 8:00 pm.
