Women's Lacrosse Falls to No. 10 Stevens

Montclair, NJ (3/5/11) – Senior KAYLA HENDERSON (Landing, NJ / Roxbury) scored three goals and registered an assist however it wasn't enough as Montclair State dropped its home opener to No. 10 Stevens, 17-7 at Sprague Field on Saturday afternoon.

Junior CORA DELFINI (New Egypt, NJ / New Egypt) had a goal and assist as the Red Hawks fell to 0-2.
Senior Pamela Loria (New Providence, NJ / New Providence) had three goals and five assists as the Ducks scored five of the first six goals in capturing its season opener.

After a scoreless eight minutes to open the game, the Ducks put two goals on the board as Christime Smith (East Northport, NY / Northport) and Loria scored 21 seconds apart. Delfini would answer for MSU on the free position with 20:35 remaining, but Smith countered 27 seconds later for 3-1 lead. Loria and Leah Wasserman (Monmouth Beach, NJ / Shore Regional) capped off the run as the Ducks led 5-1 with 13:13 to play in the first.

Freshman KELLY SCHONEVELD (Denville, NJ / Morris Knolls) and sophomore KAILEE BEAL (Landing, NJ / Roxbury) each scored within a minute of each other to bring Montclair to 5-3 however Stevens recorded four of the next five goals to take a 9-4 lead at halftime.

Henderson would net her second and third goals early in the second half to help the Red Hawks creep within 9-6 but Sevens exploded for the next six goals, including two apiece by Wasserman and Michelle Buonacuore (Medford, NJ / Shawnee) to take a 14-6 lead with 9:24 left.

Sophomore goalkeeper TIFFANI HENDERSON (Landing, NJ / Roxbury) made 11 saves for the Red Hawks. Defenders Kristin Quigley (Marlton, NJ / Lenape) and SARA WATSON (Medford Lakes, NJ / Shawnee) had five and three ground balls, respectively for Montclair. Beal and Schoneveld had three draws each.

The Red Hawks return to action on Tuesday, March 8 as they host University of Scranton at Sprague Field beginning at 7:00 pm.
