Women's Lacrosse Shoots Past Mount St. Mary

Newburgh, NY (4/2/11) – Senior KAYLA HENDERSON (Landing, NJ / Roxbury) scored five times as Montclair State rolled to its sixth straight victory while remaining unbeaten in the Skyline Conference with a 15-2 victory over Mount St. Mary College on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore midfielder KAILEE BEAL (Landing, NJ / Roxbury) and junior CORA DELFINI (New Egypt, NJ / New Egypt) each had three goals and two assists as the Red Hawks improved to 6-2 overall while upping its conference record to 4-0.

Scorless through the first 11 minutes of the game, it was the Knights that put the first goal on the board as Sharon Cranwell scored with 18:47 to go in the opening period. Montclair would trail for nearly three more minutes before scoring 14 straight goals.

Delfini tied the game with the first of her three goals and Henderson scored twice in a 15-second span with 12:43 to play as the Red Hawks took a 3-1 lead. MEGHAN SPITZER (Mount Olive, NJ / Mount Olive) added an unassisted tally and goals by KRISSA HENDERSON (Landing, NJ / Roxbury) and KAYLA HENDERSON gave Montclair State a 6-1 advantage with 6:59 left.

Beal would have a hand in the next three goals, assisting on the first and scoring the second as MSU led 8-1 at the break. She would score the first goal of the second half and later added her third of the game with 25:59 to go as the lead grew to 11-1. KAYLA HENDERSON scored twice more before Spitzer capped the run of goals with 5:46 on the clock.

Sophomore goalkeeper TIFFANI HENDERSON (Landing, NJ / Roxbury) made six saves for the Red Hawks, who outshot Mt. St. Mary, 32-12.

Montclair State returns to action on Tuesday, April 5 as they host York College (PA) at Sprague Field beginning at 6:00 pm.
