Meth Sets Goal Record as Men's Lacrosse Rolls Past Stockton and into Skyline Championship Game

Senior Scores Five Times as Montclair Earns Fifth Straight Trip to Finals

Montclair, NJ – Senior attack Tyler Meth (Basking Ridge, NJ, Ridge) scored five times and became the all-time leader in goals scored for Montclair State as the top-seeded Red Hawks rolled into the championship game of the Skyline Conference Tournament with a 17-5 win over No. 3 seed Richard Stockton at Sprague Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Senior attack Matt Prongay (Edison, NJ, Edison) added three goals as the Red Hawks (10-5) won their ninth straight game and advanced to the league's title game for the fifth consecutive season. MSU, which has won the last three conference crowns, will host Kean University on Saturday, April 28 at 1:00 pm with the winner earning the Skyline's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship.

It will be the fourth time in five years that the two will battle for the Skyline Championship. Kean won the first meeting in 2008 with Montclair State capturing the next two championship games in 2009 and 2010. Two weeks ago, the Red Hawks registered an 8-4 win over the Cougars in Union.

Senior midfielder Wade Veselka (Chesterfield, NJ / Northern Burlington) and Matt Blogno (Glen Gardner, NJ / Voorhees) had two goals apiece for Richard Stockton which finished the season at 7-9 with two of those losses coming to Montclair State as the Ospreys dropped a 14-8 decision on April 4.

Meth scored two of Montclair's first three goals as his second with 10:06 left gave the Red Hawks an early 3-0 lead. Bologno would answer for Richard Stockton 36 seconds later however MSU would post the final three goals of the period for a 6-1 lead. John Barney (Ridgewood, NJ, Delbarton) and Jack Skeels (Roseland, NJ, West Essex) had a goal apiece with Meth getting the hat trick with 10 seconds left in the opening quarter.

Skeels and Prongay scored 27 seconds apart early in the second quarter as Montclair extended its lead to 8-1. Prongay's second with 38 seconds to go before halftime as the Red Hawks took a 9-2 lead into the break.

Montclair State continued its offensive barrage in the second half with six goals in the third period. Meth scored his fourth 48 seconds into the half and Prongay and Kevin Dyer (Flemington, NJ, Hunterdon Central) scored less than a minute apart as the lead grew to 12-2.

Meth would place his name atop the all-time goal list with 6:20 to play in the third as he scored off a feed from Barney. The goal was the 163rd career marker for Meth, who surpassed Keith VanNess (1991-1994) as the all-time lead in Montclair State history.

Dyer, Skeels, Barney and Ryan Macejka (Pompton Plains, NJ, Pequannock) each finished with two goals apiece for the Red Hawks. Barney, Skeels and Schreck had two assists each. Senior goalkeeper Mark Glander (Vernon, NJ, Vernon Township) made 10 saves in just under three quarters of play before giving way to Michael Dorn (Blairstown, NJ, North Warren), who had eight saves over the final 15-plus minutes. Freshman Nate Merino (Kinnelon, NJ, Kinnelon) forced four turnovers while Blake Vernam (Ringoes, NJ, Hunterdon Central) added three and Sean Gilmore (Elmwood Park, NJ, Bergen Catholic) two caused turnovers.

Drew Wright (Wallingford, PA / Strath Haven) had two assists for Richard Stockton which got a huge game from faceoff specialist Eugene Isola (Monroe Township, NJ / Christian Brothers Academy). Isola was 18-of-24 attempts with 16 ground balls. Goalkeeper Noah Morris (Brick, NJ / Brick Township) had 10 saves.
