Salem, VA - Sophomore righthander Alex Hill (Parsippany, NJ, Parsippany Hills) tossed a two-hit shutout while Alisha Cumberton (Toms River, NJ, Toms River East) and Kelli O'Brien (Edison, NJ, Edison) each drove in a run as Montclair State picked up its second victory in the 2012 NCAA Division III Softball Championship with a 2-0 win over Roanoke College on Saturday.

The Red Hawks (44-7) picked up their 44th win of the season as they set a new single-season mark for victories surpassing the previous standard of 43 set in 2008.

Montclair State will face Pacific Lutheran on Sunday, May 20 at 5:00 pm with the winner advancing to the championship round on Monday.

Hill struck out 12 and walked one as she improved to 32-4 on the season. The First-Team All-American recorded her 19th shutout of the season, 29th complete game in 2012 and her 18th double-digit strikeout contest. She allowed a leadoff double in the bottom of the first and retired the next 11 hitters before giving up a two-out single in the fourth.

Montclair State, which upended Plattsburgh State 1-0 on Friday evening, scored twice in the bottom of the fourth as the Red Hawks sent eight batters to the plate and took advantage of two Roanoke errors.

Jamie Paulino (Linden, NJ, Linden) and Dana Amato (Hillsdale, NJ, Pascack Valley) opened the inning with back-to-back singles and a sacrficie by Hill put the runners at second and third. Cumberton then bounced a ball to second base for an infield hit allowing Paulino to score as MSU took a 1-0 lead. Katie Muglia (South Plainfield, NJ, South Plainfield) reached on an error to load the bases before O'Brien smacked a sacrifice fly to deep left field that was misplayed letting pinch-runner Nicole Iorio (Beachwood, NJ, Toms River South) cross the plate as Montclair led 2-0.

That would be all Hill would need as fanned two in the bottom of the seventh lift the Red Hawks to 2-0 in the tournament.
