Volleyball Winning Streak Comes to an End as Red Hawks Fall at Rowan

Terpstra Eight Kills, 12 Digs in Loss

Glassboro, NJ – The Montclair State volleyball team had its five-match winning streak snapped on Thursday evening as the Red Hawks fell at Rowan 3-1. Rowan won by the set scores of 17-25, 25-15, 25-23 and 25-18.

The Profs improve to 17-8 overall and 5-1 in the NJAC, while the Red Hawks have an overall mark of 13-7 and a conference record of 4-3. Setter Rebecca Dantonio (fr. Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) recorded 39 assists and had 11 digs in the victory. Outside hitter Danielle Havlicek (so. Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) tallied 13 kills and 12 digs, while middle hitter Morgan Mende (so. Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) added 16 kills. Middle hitter Dakota Oeskovic (sr. Pine Beach, NJ/Toms River S.) collected 11 kills. Libero Casey Grasso (sr. Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) had 22 digs.
 
For the Red Hawks, outside hitter Melissa Terpstra (Midland Park, NJ, Midland Park) had eight kills and 12 digs. Setter Angela Campo (Washington Township, NJ, Westwood) recorded 31 assists and libero Kaitlyn Irwin (Cranford, NJ, Cranford) added 17 digs.
 
The first set was tight early on and the score was tied at 13. Montclair then ended the set on a 12-4 run to take set one. The second set was all even at eight, but it was Rowan that used a 14-2 spurt to take a 22-10 lead and went on to win the second set. Set three was close throughout and the score was tied at 16, 17, 18, 19, 22 and 23. The Profs scored the final two points to take the third set. The fourth set was tied at seven, but Rowan used an 11-4 run to take an 18-11 lead. Montclair State could only get as close as six points the rest of the way and the Profs won the set by seven.

Montclair State returns to action on Tuesday, October 22 as it travels to Western Connecticut for a 7:00 pm match with the Colonials.
