Red Hawks Score Twice in First Half to Remain Unbeaten

Galloway Township, NJ – Senior Allison Wacker (Stockholm, NJ, Wallkill Valley) and sophomore Martina Landeka (Westfield, NJ, Westfield) each scored in the first half as No. 3/8 Montclair State clinched the NJAC regular-season title for the second straight year with a 3-0 victory at Richard Stockton on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Melanie Greco (Bridgewater, NJ, Bridgewater-Raritan) had a goal for the Red Hawks, who remained unbeaten at 16-0-0. MSU also improved to 8-0 in the NJAC as it also earned the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye in the NJAC Tournament which gets under way on Saturday, November 2. Montclair, the defending league champion, will host a semifinal contest on Tuesday, November 5.

Montclair State posted its 14th shutout of the season as the Red Hawks allowed just one shot in the contest, an attempt by Briana Fischer in the second half that sailed high over the crossbar.

Meanwhile, MSU snapped a scoreless tie at the 13:03 mark of the opening half as Wacker scored her second of the season off a long shot from the side. Landeka added to the lead with 19:40 remaining banging in a rebound on an initial shot by Kerry Glynn (Old Bridge, NJ, Old Bridge) that was saved.

Greco got the final goal at 66:27 of the second half knocking in a crossing pass from Glynn.

MSU closes out its regular-season and NJAC schedule on Wednesday, October 30 when it hosts Ramapo College at MSU Soccer Park beginning at 7:00 pm.
