Cullen's Two Goals Enough for Men's Soccer as MSU Blanks Rhode Island College, 5-0

Red Hawks Knock Off Anchormen to Pick Up 10th Victory

Montclair, NJ – Junior forward Brian Cullen (Clementon, NJ, Highland Regional) scored the first two goals which proved to be all Montclair State would need as the Red Hawks blanked Rhode Island College, 5-0 at MSU Soccer Park on Tuesday evening.

Ryan Morris (Freehold, NJ, Freehold Township), John Moraes (Newark, NJ, St. Benedict's Prep) and Mike Olla (Bloomfield, NJ, St. Benedict's Prep) each had a goal helping the Red Hawks improve to 10-2-1 with their third straight win against the Anchormen. MSU has now won four of the five games with Rhode Island College.

Freshman goalkeeper Chris Moura (Rumford, RI / East Providence) made three saves for the Anchormen (5-4-3), who dropped their second straight game.

Scoreless through the first 28 minutes, Cullen put the Red Hawks on the board at 28:18 knocking a pass from senior Will O'Connor (Wyckoff, NJ, Ramapo) for his sixth goal of the season. The 1-0 lead would hold until the second half when MSU scored three-times in a six-minute span.

Cullen began the run with his second of the game on a penalty kick at 66:03 and Morris made it 3-0 at 70:58 finishing a feed from Pablo Zegarra (Moorestown, NJ, Moorestown). Moraes capped the run with his first of the season at 72:26 before Olla tallied his team-leading eighth goal with 5:54 remaining in the contest.

Freshman goalkeeper Michael Gonzalez (Kenilworth, NJ, Union Catholic), the NJAC Rookie of the Week, stopped four shot in recording his first career shutout. Gonzalez currently leads the conference in goals against average and save percentage.

MSU outshot the Anchormen  20-11 and held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The Red Hawks are back in action on Saturday, October 12 with a key New Jersey Athletic Conference matchup as Montclair faced No. 2 Rutgers-Camden in Camden, NJ at 2:30 pm.
