Like it did in its opener on Saturday evening against Mary Washington, the Red Hawks found themselves in an early deficit falling behind 11-4 in the first 4:25 of the contest. Montclair would chip away at the lead and pulled within one at 15-14 on a layup by
Kris Bergstol (New City, NY, Clarkstown South). The Dolphins (1-1) answered with two straight baskets and maintained its advantage throughout the remainder of the first half taking a 32-29 lead into halftime.
In the second half, CSI opened up with a 12-5 run to take a 44-34 lead with 15:11 left. Montclair countered with a 15-5 run tying the game at 49-49 on a three-pointer from Gonzalez. After trading baskets the Dolphins went back up by four and held on although MSU drew to within a possession twice during the final four minutes.
Montclair State is now off and returns to action on Saturday, November 23 with its home and NJAC opener at the Panzer Athletic Center. The Red Hawks take on Rowan University at 1:00 pm.
