Hoboken, NJ – For the second time this season the Montclair State men's lacrosse team gave Stevens all it could handle, however the Red Hawks came up short again as MSU fell 13-11 in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament at the DeBaun Athletic Complex on Wednesday evening.

Kenneth Bogert (Brick, NJ, Brick Township) and
Jack Skeels (Roseland, NJ, West Essex) each had three goals and an assist for the Red Hawks, who ended their season at 14-5 with their fifth NCAA Tournament appearance. Montclair earned its way into the NCAAs via the automatic bid from the Skyline Conference after posting a 16-9 win over Kean in the title game on April 27.
The Red Hawks found themselves behing 5-1 in the second period, but rallied back with four goals in four-minute span to tie the game. Skeels had hand in the first three scoring twice to bring MSU within one before
Michael Jevic (Voorhees, NJ, Eastern Regional) tied the game at 5-5 with 1:48 to play. Stevens broke the run 34 seconds later as the Ducks (13-4) led 6-5 at halftime.
In the third quarter Montclair collected the first three goals as Bogert scored unassisted 54 seconds in and Skeels got his third on a man-up situation 10 seconds later putting MSU in front for the first time at 7-6. Jevic's second goal two minutes later made it a two-goal advantage for the Red Hawks with 11:56 remaining.
But Stevens countered with a three-goal run of its own taking a 9-8 lead before
Sam Morrissey (Hackettstown, NJ, West Morris Central) scored unassisted with 4:42 to go tying the game at 9-9.
The Ducks' Charlie Cronin started another three-goal run that gave Stevens a 12-9 advantage with just under 10 minutes to play in the forth. Bogert scored with 8:11 left to cut the deficit to two goals however Rich Dupras, who scored the decisive goal in Stevens' 12-11 win over MSU in March, scored with 5:42 to go making the score 13-10.
Michael Schreck (Flemington, NJ, Hunterdon Central) recorded a man-up goal with 2:26 to play as MSU closed within 13-11 however that would as close as the Red Hawks would get.
Bogert, playing in his final game for MSU was outstanding at the “X” winning 18-of-26 faceoffs with 10 ground balls. Junior goalkeeper
Michael Dorn (Blairstown, NJ, North Warren), who leads the nation in save percentage, stopped 11 shots for Montclair State.
