New York, NY – The Montclair State volleyball team climbed back to the .500 mark on Saturday as the Red Hawks extended their winning streak to four with 3-0 victories over Cedar Crest and NYU-Polytechnic.
Freshman Melissa Terpstra (Midland Park, NJ, Midland Park) recorded 16 kills along with three aces and nine digs as MSU (4-4) beat Cedar Crest by scores of 25-23, 25-15, 25-14. Fellow classmate Courtney Matlock (Jackson, NJ, Jackson Memorial) added 10 kills while sophomore Dana McNish (Hawthorne, NJ, Hawthorne) had six. Setter Angela Campo (Washington Township, NJ, Westwood) registered 41 assists while libero Kaitlyn Irwin (Cranford, NJ, Cranford) had 13 digs. Kimberly Butrico (Cresskill, NJ, Cresskill) and Alexis Waters (Secaucus, NJ, Secaucus) had seven digs each.
Senior Sara Girgus (Green Brook, NJ, Watchung Hills) had eight kills while Jessica Mulderig (Nesconset, NY, Smithtown) posted six in the win against NYU-Poly as Montclair put game scors of 25-15, 25-15, 25-12. Campo had 21 assists with Elise Brackett (Bogota, NJ, Bogota) getting 10 along with six digs. Senior Marta Topor (Bogota, NJ, Bogota) en for five kills and 17 digs with Samantha Szura (Hewitt, NJ, Ramapo)topping the Red Hawks with 23 digs.
Montclair State is now off until Thursday, September 19 when its hosts Kean University in its NJAC opener at the Panzer Athletic Center beginning at 7:00 pm.
