No. 11 Men's Soccer Knocks Off Hunter College in Home Opener, 4-0

Horan Two Assists as Red Hawks Move to 3-0

Montclair, NJ – Junior Mike Horan (Bridgewater, NJ, Bridgewater-Raritan) had two assists as 11th-ranked Montclair State outshot Hunter College 31-5 in a 5-0 victory over the Hawks at MSU Soccer Park on Wednesday evening.

Dan DiMaio (Wayne, NJ, Wayne Valley), John Starner (Manahawkin, NJ, Southern Regional), Maxx Wurzburger (Glen Rock, NJ, Glen Rock) and Jon Krzysik (Clifton, NJ, Paramus Catholic) each had a goal for the Red Hawks, who improved to 3-0 with the victory.

MSU wasted little time getting on the board as it scored 1:47 into the contest. Horan served a perfectly place corner kick which DiMaio headed into the back of the net for his first career goal and a 1-0 Montclair State advantage. Horan would get his second assists in similar fashion nearly six minutes later when Starner banged in a pass giving the Red Hawks a two-goal lead just over eight minutes into the contest.

Montclair maintained the 2-0 lead until the latter part of the contest scoring twice in a span of 2:15. Wurzburger got the first goal at 73:50 pouncing on a loose ball before knocking it past the goalkeeper for his first tally of the year.

Kryzsik, the NJAC Defensive Player of the Week, got the final goal at 76:05 finishing off a feed from sophomore Lucas Terci (Union, NJ, Union).

Freshman goalkeeper Michael Gonzalez (Kenilworth, NJ, Union Catholic), making his first career start, stopped three shots in the first 71:54 before giving way to Frank Buchel (Voorhees, NJ, Eastern Regional) and Kevin Halloran (Oakland, NJ, Indian Hills), who finished off the shutout.

Montclair State returns to action on Friday, September 6 as it hosts SUNY Cortland at MSU Soccer Park beginning at 7:00 pm. The Red Hawks will also host Manhattanville on Sunday, September 8 at 7:00 pm.
