No. 11 Women's Basketball Rolls to Seventh Straight Win as Red Hawks Top Stockton, 84-45

Freshman Krauss Drains Five Three-Pointers, Finishes with 18

Montclair, NJ – Freshman Rachael Krauss (Farmingdale, NJ, Colts Neck) drained five three-pointers in the first half scoring 16 of her game-high 18 points as No. 11 Montclair State rolled to its seventh straight victory with an 84-45 win over Richard Stockton at the Panzer Athletic Center on Saturday.

Junior forward Melissa Tobie (Elizabeth, NJ, Roselle Catholic) had 17 points, seven rebounds, five assists, two blocks and two steals for the Red Hawks (13-1), who remained unbeaten in the NJAC at 7-0. The victory was Montclair's 26th consecutive conference regular-season win.

Junior guard Alex Nardoza (Fords, NJ / Woodbridge) had 12 points and two assists for the Ospreys (6-7, 3-4 NJAC), who had their four-game winning streak snapped with the loss.

Krauss, who entered the game 5:09 into the contest, drained her first five attempts from behind the arc as she collected the most three-pointers in a game by a Red Hawk since Jaime Ericson had six versus Rowan in January 2011.

The Red Hawks never trailed in the game and blew open a close game in the first half with 26-4 run that spanned nearly 11 minutes. Leading 11-5, Nicosia Henry (Bolingbrook, IL, Bolingbrook) started the run that ballooned Montclair's lead to 37-9 with three minutes left. Tobie had six points in the run as seven different Red Hawks got in on the scoring action. Henry, Janitza Aquino (Kearny, NJ, Kearny) and Jen Kuczynski (Springfield, NJ, Jonathan Dayton) each had four points.

Richard Stockton scored the next two baskets however Krauss connected from behind the arc on the next three trips down the floor for MSU, which took a 47-14 lead into the break. Montclair shot 61 percent (19-of-31) in the first half.

Henry chipped in with 10 points, six rebounds and five steals as MSU took advantage of Stockton's 28 turnovers as it scored 31 points off the miscues.  Montclair State added 20 fast-break points and got 41 points from its bench. Aquino had 13 points.

Montclair State is back in action on Wednesday, January 15 as it hosts The College of New Jersey in matchup of unbeaten conference teams at 6:00 pm. Richard Stockton is at Baruch College on Monday, January 13 before hosting Rowan on Wednesday.
