Montclair, NJ – Senior
Joseph Berry (Edison, NJ, Edison) posted three wins while freshman Nicandro Donadio added two victories as the Montclair State men's swimming and diving team picked up its second straight impressive victory with a 156-122 win over Vassar at the Panzer Athletic Center Pool on Wednesday.
The Red Hawks, who knocked off Division I NJIT on Monday, improved to 7-5 on the year as MSU won eight of the 16 total events contested.
After being touched out in the opening event of the evening, the 200 medley relay, Montclair took the first two individual events as Donadio led a 1-2 finish in the 1000 freestyle as he swam 10:40.55 with
Alan Buob (Tinton Falls, NJ, Monmouth Regional) coming in second at 11:03.41. Senior
Michael Smith (Cherry Hill, NJ, Cherry Hill East) then led a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 freestyle as he took the event with a time of 1:53.40.
Dan Knepple (Oxford, CT, Oxford) was second at 1:55.58 and
Kevin Kolesa (Edison, NJ, JP Stevens) placed third in 1:57.18.
Vassar won the next three events, however Berry swam 22.74 to win the 50 freestyle and picked up a second victory in the 100 free posting a time of 50.00 seconds before
Brian Ubhaus (Jefferson Township, NJ, Jefferson) made its three straight events for MSU capturing the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:06.67.
Donadio and
Nick Kalafatis (Cranford, NJ, Cranford) were 1-2 in the 500 freestyle with times for 5:14.02 and 5:21.15, respectively and Berry won his third event taking the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:05.08.
Donadio then joined
Brendon Burkett (Egg Harbor Township, NJ, Egg Harbor),
Robert Becker (Easton, PA, Easton) and Kalafatis to win the final event of the evening, the 400 freestyle relay as the group swam 3:27.89 to claim the top spot.
Montclair State returns to action as both the men and women head to Mahwah on Saturday, January 25 for a 2:00 pm NJAC matchup with the Roadrunners.
