Meet Results
Montclair, NJ – Not even the snowstorm which powered through Northeast region on Friday was strong enough to stop the Montclair State men's and women's swimming teams from picking up victories as the Red Hawks swept past FDU-Florham at the Panzer Athletic Center Pool.
Hours after six-plus inches of snow fell across the area, MSU posted a 71-19 win over the Devils on the women's side while the men added a 111-71 triumph. The Montclair women improved to 5-3 on the year while the men squared their record at 4-4.
Montclair State took first place in seven different events including the first of the day, the 200 medley relay.
Tori Holzberg (Ridgewood, NJ, Ridgewood),
Christine Werner (Livingston, NJ, Livingston),
Katherine LaCava (Milltown, NJ, Mount St. Mary's) and
Jessica Joseph (Brick, NJ, Brick Township) posted a time of 2:01.46 while the quartet of
Brian Ubhaus (Jefferson Township, NJ, Jefferson),
David DuBois (Wayne, NJ, Wayne Valley),
Nicandro Donadio (Mountainside, NJ, Governor Livingston) and
Joseph Berry (Edison, NJ, Edison) registered a time of 1:47.69.
Catherine O'Kane (Middletown, NJ, Middletown South) and Nick Kalafatis each won the 1000 freestyle in times of 11:51.46 and 10:58.68, respectively while
Sydney Stein (Reistertown, MD, Owings Mills) and
Brendon Burkett (Egg Harbor Township, NJ, Egg Harbor) did the same in the 200 freestyle. Stein swam 2:09.08 and Burkett clocked in at 1:50.55.
Alyson Gawin (Cochranville, PA, Octorara Area) and
Michael Smith (Cherry Hill, NJ, Cherry Hill East) won the 50 freestyle in times of 26.51 and 23.42 respectively and LaCava and Ubhaus finished first in the 200 individual medley (2:21.34 for LaCava, 2:09.55 for Ubhaus).
LaCava added a second win in the 100 butterfly (1:04.54) and Berry took top honors in the same event coming in a 1:00.14. Gawin and Smith made it a sweep of the short freestyles as each took first place in the 100 freestyle. Gawin posted a time of 59.08 with Smith recording a winning time of 49.93.
Werner had the top times in the 500 freestyle and 100 breaststroke events recording times of 5:32.60 and 1:12.46, respectively.
Holzberg,
Kelsey Tonery (Edison, NJ, Bishop Ahr), LaCava and Werner combined for the best time in the 200 freestyle relay at 1:49.54.
The Red Hawks are now off until Saturday, January 19 when it travels to New Jersey Athletic Conference foe Rowan University. In the meantime, the Red Hawks will head to Puerto Rico on its Winter Training Trip.
