Montclair, NJ - Sophomore outside hitter
Melissa Terpstra (Midland Park, NJ, Midland Park) posted 39 kills and 35 digs combined as Montclair State swept a tri-match at the Panzer Athletic Center on Saturday. The Red Hawks upped their record to 18-6 with a four-set win over Brooklyn College and a 3-0 victory against Moravian College.
Terpstra posted a career-best 24 kills as MSU dropped the first set to the Bulldogs 25-22 before bouncing beack with 25-19, 25-13 and 25-23 victories in the final three sets. The 2013 All-NJAC selection, hit .500 for the match (24-5-38) and also added 18 digs. Senior
Erika Gerner (Sparta, NJ, Sparta) added a double-double of 10 kills and 12 digs while freshman
Madison Maute (Sparta, NJ, Sparta) registered six kills while also blocking three attempts. Senior setter
Angela Campo (Washington Township, NJ, Westwood) led MSU with 30 assists while
Kimberly Matlock (Jackson, NJ, Jackson Memorial) recorded 12 in the final set. Libero
Lily Scanzillo (Upper Saddle River, NJ, Northern Highlands) had eight digs.
Terpstra hit .433 with 15 kills and collected another double-double with 17 digs helping MSU to a 25-22, 25-21 and 25-13 win over Moravian (12-15). Maute,
Courtney Matlock (Jackson, NJ, Jackson Memorial), and
Rebecca Matasker (Washington Township, NJ, Westwood) each had seven kills with
Leah Stine (Bridgewater, NJ, Bridgewater-Raritan) getting six kills, four aces and seven digs. Campo recorded another 26 assists along with 10 digs while Scanzillo posted 12 digs.
Montclair State returns to action Tuesday, October 4 when it hosts Rutgers-Newark in an NJAC matchup at the Panzer Athletic Cetner. First serve is slated for 7:00 pm and it will be MSU's annual charity game contest to benefit the Sideout Foundation agains cancer.
