Game Recap: Field Hockey |

No. 11 Field Hockey Gets Two Goals, Assist from Danielle Butrico in 5-0 Win at William Paterson

Moglino Goal, Assist as MSU Collects Second Straight Win

Wayne, NJ – Sophomore forward Danielle Butrico (South Plainfield, NJ, South Plainfield) scored twice and picked up an assist as 11th-ranked Montclair State posted its second straight victory with a 5-0 win over local rival William Paterson University in an NJAC matchup at Wightman Stadium on Friday evening.

Sophomore Gianna Moglino (Holmdel, NJ, Holmdel) had a goal and an assist as the Red Hawks scored twice in the first eight minutes and never looked back in improving to 9-2 on the season, 2-0 in the NJAC.

Montclair struck quickly taking a 1-0 lead less than three minutes into the game. Senior Joelle Butrico (South Plainfield, NJ, South Plainfield) moved in on the left wing and fired a shot toward the goal that was tipped in by sister Danielle for the latter's first of the game and fourth of the season. The lead went to 2-0 five minutes later on an almost identical play except this time the tip from Danielle Butrico bounced out to Maura Johnston (Montville, NJ, Montville) who banged in the carom for her ninth of the year.

Danielle Butrico collected her second of the game at 15:04 redirecting a shot by Moglino off a penalty corer as the Red Hawks led 3-0 at the break.

Moglino would get her seventh of the season 7:53 into the second half finishing off a pass from Kaitlyn Struss (Fairfield, NJ, West Essex). Senior Abby Erler (New Hampton, NH, Newfound Regional) accounted for the final goal with a nine-yard rocket shot from the left wing. It was Erler's fourth of the year.

Junior goalkeeper Rebecca Brattole (Clark, NJ, Arthur L. Johnson) and freshman Kaitlin Maguire (Toms River, NJ, Toms River North) combined on the shutout, Montclair's second of the season.

MSU returns to action on Wednesday, October 8 hosting FDU-Florham at Sprague Field beginning at 7:00 pm. It will be the Red Hawks' charity game as Montclair will donate proceeds from the contest to the Play 4 the Cure organization.
