Butrico's Second Straight Hat Trick Leads No. 13 Field Hockey Past Gwynedd-Mercy, 4-1

Red Hawks Close Out Regular-Season at 14-4

Gwynedd Valley, PA – It was the day after Halloween, however sophomore forward DANIELLE BUTRICO was still in the "Trick or Treat" spirit.  

Butrico posted her second straight hat trick, scoring three times lifting No. 13 Montclair State to a 4-1 victory over Gwynedd-Mercy.

Sophomore forward GIANNA MOGLINO added a goal and two assists as the Red Hawks closed out their regular-season at 14-4. ABBY ERLER and MAURA JOHNSTON each had assists for MSU.

Butrico, who has seven goals and 15 points in her last three games, got MSU on the board 6:09 into the contest with the first of her three scores. Taking a pass inside the circle from Moglino and dribbled around goalkeeper Kelly Kruk before flipping the ball into the back of the cage for a 1-0 Montclair State lead.

The Griffins (13-5) tied the game six minutes later off a penalty corner with Stephanie Bacho getting the goal for a 1-1 tie which would remain into the second half.

Montclair broke the deadlock in the second half with the final three goals of the contest. Moglino set up Butrico on a penalty corner 8:13 into the period putting the Red Hawks in front 2-1. MSU then scored twice in a span of 3:54. Moglino finished off a feed from Erler at 62:11 with Butrico getting the hat trick with 3:55 left knocking in a cross from Johnston for her 13th goal of the year.

Goakeeper REBECCA BRATTOLE stopped four shots for Montclair State, which outshot Gwynedd-Mercy 13-7, including 7-1 in the second half. Kruk also had four saves.

The Red Hawks now turn their attention to the NJAC Tournament which begins on Wednesday, November 5. Montclair will be the No. 3 seed and will face either Rowan or The College of New Jersey in a semifinal contest.
