Green Named MVP as Men's Basketball Downs Cazenovia to Capture BB&T Tip-Off Classic

Loften-Harris Named to All-Tournament Team

Winchester, VA – Freshman guard LAVRONE GREEN scored 22 points and was named the Most Valuable Player as Montclair State captured the BB&T Tip-Off Classic at Shenandoah University with a 95-79 win over Cazenovia on Sunday afternoon.

Sophomore guard ERICK LOFTEN-HARRIS scored 13 points and added five rebounds and five assists landing a spot on the All-Tournament Team as the Red Hawks are off to their first 2-0 start since the 2009-10 campaign when it opened the season by winning the MSU Tip-Off Tournament.

The Red Hawks led for all but 1:16 of the contest and that came early in the first half after Cazenovia tied the game at 7-7. Green finished off a break to put MSU back in front and followed that with a three-point field goal making the score 12-7 with 16:08 to play. The lead would be trimmed to 14-13 before Montclair went on a 22-7 run over a seven-minute span to take a 36-20 advantage on a basket by JEROME HILTON with 6:19 left.

TRAMAINE WHITE boosted MSU's lead to 17 points as MSU settled for a 46-29 lead at the break. The Red Hawks shot 67 percent from the floor making 18 of its 27 attempts from the field Green had 13 points in the first half.

A layup by FLOYD MELVIN got Montclair State's lead to 21 points at 56-35 and the Red Hawks took their largest lead of the game at 70-42 with 10:26 left on a jumper by DEVYN RANSOM.

Russell finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists for Montclair State while MARCUS FULMORE chipped in with 10 points, nine rebounds and four assists. KEVIN MCGORRY added nine points and eight rebounds. The Red Hawks had 13 different players get into the scoring column.

Montclair State is now off until Saturday, November 22 when it opens up its NJAC schedule in Ewing, NJ against The College of New Jersey at 3:00 pm.
