Montclair, NJ – Senior forward KAILA FASANO scored with 51 seconds remaining in the second overtime period as Montclair State advanced to the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Sectional Tournament with a 1-0 victory over Connecticut College at MSU Soccer Park on Sunday evening.

Fasano's 15^th goal of the season sent the Red Hawks (19-1-2) in the "Sweet 16" for the second consecutive year. Montclair State will face Lynchburg College in the Sectional Semifinals at a date, time and location to be announced on Monday, November 17 on NCAA.com. The Red Hawks will be joined by Messiah College and Nazareth College in the four-team bracket.

Sophomore goalkeeper Bryanna Montalvo (Rocky Hill, Connecticut) had an outstanding game making 10 saves including several spectacular stops for the Camels, who close out their season at 16-3-1. Connecticut College, champions of the NESCAC, were making their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 1998.

Less than a minute away from penalty kicks, the Red Hawks, who outshot Connecticut College 21-7 in the contest, finally broke through. Looking to clear back across midfield, senior KERRY GLYNN picked up the loose ball and booted a pass down toward the top of the left box where Fasano and MARTINA LANDEKA had each broken free. Fasano put the ball on her foot and drove in flipping a shot ahead of an oncoming Montalvo into the back of the net setting off a wild celebration for Montclair State.

The Red Hawks took six of the eight shots in the two overtime period however it nearly ended the game on the first one just 24 seconds into the first extra period. Landeka put through a ball to FRANCESCA GIBSON who gained a step on her defender and fired a shot from the top of the box. Montalvo, who charged out 15 yards to stop the play, made a smothering catch of the liner keeping the match deadlocked.

In the first half, each team got early chances. Montalvo stopped Fasano on an almost identical play 5:24 into the game and the Camels nearly got on the board when Rebecca Raymond (Lowell, MA) fired a shot along the left end line that looked as though it would bend in but clanked off the bottom of the far post in the 14^th minute.

Montalvo made two more saves in the half, including a diving hand save on a shot by TYLER MADISON in the 37^th minute.  MSU would threaten early in the second half as JENNIE HORNSTRA put forth a shot in the opening minute that was save by Montalvo while a shot by MELISSA KOSTER sailed just over the crossbar.

In the 67^th minute, Fasano moved in along the right sideline and put one past Montalvo on the near side however the Red Hawks were ruled offside. Late in the period, Montclair made one last push as Gibson got off a shot from the right side that Montalvo stopped with 1:44 to go. The rebound came out to Fasano who banged in the carom for what looked like the game-winning goal. But again Montclair was called for offside.

Freshman Livi Block (New York, NY) blasted a ball from out on the left wing with 37 seconds remaining but MSU keeper GINA POLICASTRO made an easy catch of the attempt as the match went into overtime.

Policastro recorded the shutout, her 16^th of the season and 46^th of her career, a new MSU record breaking the mark of 45 set by Stephanie Romano from 1999-2002. Fasano's goal also gave her 97 career points which put her in fourth place on the all-time scoring list.    

The meeting with Lynchburg will be the second NCAA Tournament contest between the Red Hawks and Hornets in three years. Lynchburg registered a 2-0 victory over the Red Hawks in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament in Virginia. In fact, MSU's last meeting with each of the Sectional teams came in the NCAA Tournament.  MSU tied Messiah 0-0 in the second round of the 2004 NCAAs at home with the Falcons advancing in penalty kicks. Montclair edged Nazareth 1-0 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Elizabethtown, PA in 2006.
