Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 18 Men's Soccer Downs Kean in NJAC Tournament to Advance to Championship Game, 3-0

Wurzburger, Terci, Bziukiewicz Each Score for Red Hawks

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State men's soccer team, ranked 18th in Division III, had three players named to the All-NJAC Team announced on Tuesday morning. That evening all three played an instrumental role in helping the top-seeded Red Hawks to the championship game of the NJAC Tournament with a 3-0 triumph over fourth-seeded Kean University.

Senior MAXX WURZBURGER had a goal and assist while LUCAS TERCI and DAMIAN BZIUKIEWICZ each added goals as Montclair State advanced to the title for the sixth time in the last nine years. The Red Hawks (16-4) will face third-seeded and two-time defending league titleholder Rutgers-Camden on Friday, November 7 at home with the winner claiming the league crown as well as an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship.

Montclair State, which will be seeking its 11th conference title, is 4-1 in NJAC championship game contests with the lone loss coming in 2011 to the Scarlet Raptors in Camden. The Red Hawks edged the Scarlet Raptors by the same score in the 2008 championship contest at MSU's Sprague Field.

Montclair topped Rutgers-Camden 5-2 at MSU Soccer Park on October 18 avenging a loss to the Scarlet Raptors in the NCAA Division III Sectional Final in 2013.

Wurzburger, a First-Team All-NJAC selection, put the Red Hawks on the board 4:30 into the contest with his sixth goal of the year. After sending a ball into the box, the Cougars (12-8-1) tried to clear however Wurzburger picked up the loose ball and took two touches before firing a shot from the top of the box the tucked underneath the upper-right corner for the game's first goal.

Montclair kept up most of the possession and had nearly all the scoring opportunities in the first half outshooting Kean, 12-2. Cougars goalkeeper Nick Pavlichko (Byram, NJ / Lenape Valley) stopped three shots with Montclair State's MICHAEL GONZALEZ snaring the lone shot on goal by Kean in the opening period, a header by Patrick Foley (Clark, NJ / Arthur L. Johnson) that came two minutes after the goal.

The Red Hawks held on to that one-goal advantage until 15 minutes into the second half when it tallied twice in a span of 2:30.

Terci, the NJAC Offensive Player of the Year, collected a ball at midfield and pushed it forward for 40 yards before unleashing a right-footed blast from the top of the box that flew past Pavlichko into the upper right of the goal giving the Red Hawks a 2-0 lead at the 60:09 mark. It was Terci's team-leading 13th goal of the season.

Wurzburger would play a role in the final Montclair State goal. Playing a ball deep in the box on the left side, he ripped a shot that clanked off the near post. The caromed over to the right side where a wide-open Bziukiewicz, the NJAC Midfielder of the Year, easily flicked a header inside the post for his seventh goal of the year and a 3-0 MSU advantage with 27:21 remaining.

Gonzalez finished with three saves as he recorded his fifth shutout of the season. Pavlichko ended the contest with nine saves.
