Montclair, NJ - The Red Hawks are hoping to celebrate more than just Senior Day as they return to Sprague Field for their final home contest of the year against Morrisville State. MSU, winners of seven straight, can clinch a share of the NJAC Championship and automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs with a victory while a loss would create a potential three-way tie for the conference lead with Montclair, Morrisville and Rowan.
Montclair put themselves in this position following a 30-20 come-from-behind win at Cortland last week, its first at the Red Dragons' home place since 2003. Cornerback
C.J. CONWAY returned the last of his four interceptions 23 yards for a touchdown capping the comeback as MSU rallied from 20-10 down in the second quarter. Kicker
JOHN SCHUBERT connected on 3-of-4 field goal attempts, including a 42-yarder on the final play of the first half that started the comeback. Running back
DENZEL NIEVES rushed for 128 yards and a pair of touchdowns while wide receiver
AARON WILLIAMS hauled in 10 receptions for 130 yards.
Morrisville State racked up 493 yards total offense on the day, 359 alone in the running game behind the power of quarterback Lemar Johnson and Cristian Pena in a 38-14 home win over William Paterson. Johnson collected 158 net yards on 22 carries for two scores, and Pena added 148 yards on 23 attempts, also scoring twice. Johnson was 11-of-20 in passing on the afternoon, connecting for 134 yards, 106 to fellow senior Josh Powell on eight receptions. Powell's tallies put him over the 2,000 mark in receiving yards, as he became the first Mustang to reach that milestone in program history.
