No. 7/9 Women's Basketball Cruises Past Ramapo for Seventh Straight Win, 71-34

Sire, Ceballos Pace Balanced Red Hawks Attack

Montclair, NJ – Freshman KATIE SIRE scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds while junior guard KAYLA CEBALLOS added 13 points off the bench as No. 7/9 Montclair State cruised to a 71-34 victory over Ramapo College at the Panzer Athletic Center on Saturday.

Senior forward MELISSA TOBIE finished with 11 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals for the Red Hawks, who remained unbeaten on the year. MSU is now 7-0 overall, 4-0 in the NJAC.

Sophomore guard Doris Illic (Guttenberg, NJ / North Bergen) had 11 points in a reserve role for the Roadrunners (3-4, 0-4 NJAC), who dropped their fourth straight.

The Red Hawks netted the first 20 points of the game, including a jumper from Tobie 42 seconds into the contest. She later added another layup for a 7-0 advantage and a short jumper by Sire gave MSU an 11-point lead with 15:17 remaining.  Senior guard JANITZA AQUINO tallied the next five points before capping the run with a fast-break layup giving MSU a 2-0 lead with 13:01 to play.

Grace Elliott (Detroit, MI / Detroit Country Day School) finally snapped the run with a pair of free throws and then scored on a layup, the Roadrunners' first of the game, with 11:27 to go making the score 22-4.

Freshman TAYLOR HARMON converted a layup with eight minutes left for Montclair State and a run of five straight points by Ceballos along with a three-pointer by RAYVEN LUCAS extended the Red Hawks' lead to 37-7 with 4:09 left. Freshman YAZMINE LACEY got the final points of the half for MSU which took a 41-13 lead into the break.

The Red Hawks held Ramapo to just 2-of-13 shooting and turned 16 turnovers by the Roadrunners into 16 points. Ceballos scored 10 of her 13 in the first half with Sire and Aquino each netting seven.  

JASMINE BRANDON collected four points and a team-high nine rebounds while KATE TOBIE handed out seven assists. MSU dominated on the glass outrebounding the Roadrunners 60-29, including 27-3 on the offensive boards.

Montclair State returns to action on Monday, December 8 when it hosts Vassar College at the Panzer Athletic Center with tipoff slated for 7:00 pm.
