Meet Results Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State men's and women's swimming and diving teams capped off one their best dual meet seasons in several years as the Red Hawks rolled past local and NJAC rival William Paterson at the Panzer Athletic Center Pool on Saturday.
The MSU men out their scheduled with a 162-126 victory over the Pioneers finishing the year at 8-6, the eight dual meet wins the most by Montclair since the 2006-07 campaign when it posted the same record. Meanwhile the women's team won 12 events in a 167-118 triumph to finish 7-4, the seven wins the most by Montclair State since 2005-06 when recorded an 8-4 season.
It was Senior Day for five of the Red Hawks, including
Kelsie Donahue (Egg Harbor, NJ, Egg Harbor Township) and
Jackie Ubhaus (Jefferson Township, NJ, Jefferson) who got MSU off to a good start as they teamed with
Allison Barth (North Caldwell, NJ, West Essex) and
Christine Werner (Livingston, NJ, Livingston) to win the 200 medley relay in a time of 2:01.13. Montclair's second quartet of
Tori Holzberg (Ridgewood, NJ, Ridgewood),
Kathleen French (Cranford, NJ, Cranford),
Julie Hansen (Berkeley Heights, NJ, Governor Livingston) and
Gabriella Bosa (Freehold, NJ, Freehold Township) were right behind at 2:01.67.
Montclair then swept the top 3 places in the 1000 freestyle and 200 freestyle.
Katherine LaCava (Milltown, NJ, Mount St. Mary's) won the 1000 free in a time of 11:28.49 with Donahue and
Ashley Singewald (Succasunna, NJ, Roxbury) coming in second and third at 11:45.23 and 11:55.09, respectively. Sophomore
Sydney Stein (Reistertown, MD, Owings Mills) led a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 free winning with a time of 2:05.83 with
Alyson Gawin (Cochranville, PA, Octorara Area)and
Jessica Joseph (Brick, NJ, Brick Township) posting times of 2:09.11 and 2:12.79.
Donahue added a win in the 100 backstroke (1:06.06) and Joseph took top honors in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.74). Bosa led a 1-2 MSU finish in the 200 butterfly clocking in at 2:27.54 with French doing the same in the 50 free as she edged out Ubhaus with a winning time of 26.91 seconds. Gawin won the 1000 freestyle (58.46) beating out Joseph (58.52) and Holzberg claimed first place in the 200 backstroke (2:23.66).
Stein easily won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:28.41 and Bosa and LaCava each collected a second win in the 100 butterfly (1:03.94) and 200 individual medley (2:22.94), respectively.
For the men, seniors
Michael Smith (Cherry Hill, NJ, Cherry Hill East),
Joseph Berry (Edison, NJ, Edison) and
Corey Munro (Cedar Grove, NJ, Cedar Grove) each had wins in their final competition at the Panzer Athletic Center. Smith would win twice taking the 200 freestyle (1:47.69) and 200 individual medley (2:07.40) with Berry taking the 50 freestyle (22.64) and Munro the 200 backstroke (2:09.97).
David DuBois (Wayne, NJ, Wayne Valley) posted a pair of wins as he took the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:06.02 before coming back to lead at 1-2-3 Red Hawk finish in the 200 breaststroke swimming 2:27.05.
Nick Kalafatis (Cranford, NJ, Cranford) was a double winner as well taking the 1000 freestyle (10:31.69) and the 200 butterfly (2:08.57) while
Nicandro Donadio (Mountainside, NJ, Governor Livingston) won the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:02.15.
Berry, DuBois, Kalafatis and Smith combined to win the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:44.94.
The Red Hawks are now off until Friday, February 14 when it takes part in the Metropolitan Conference Championship in New Brunswick.
